What is this match?
Pakistan’s reassurance to the world that Pakistan is
safer for the foreign players to play cricket on its soil. The Brutal attack on
the cricket players of Sri Lanka that happened 8 years ago in Pakistan has left
not only the Sri Lankan players but also the Pakistani players as well as the
government in turmoil. The situation even though got better by time, the world
cricket teams have refrained from playing cricket teams on Pakistan soil,
despite the repeated requests from PCB.
After a long gap of 8 years, as the veterans of the
cricket world decided that Pakistan deserved another chance, all of the test
playing nations joined together to form a team and support the cause. And so, a
tournament with the symbolic name of “Independence Day Cup” is being hosted by
Pakistan.
Who will play?
The finest of Cricket players from different test
cricket playing nations of the world are joined together to form a team of
World XI. South African Batsmen Faf du Plessis was crowned the captain of the
team which comprised of players like Morne Morkel, Tim Paine, Thisara Perrera,
Imran Tahir, Darren Sammy, Hashim Amla, Samuel Badree, George Bailey, Tamim
Iqbal, Paul Collingwood, Ben Cutting etc.
This team of World XI will be playing against the
conventional Pakistani team which is led by Sarfraz Ahmed and comprises players
like Fakhar Zaman, Ahmed Shehzad, Babar Azam, Shoaib Malik, Umar Amin, Imad
Wasim, Shadab Khan, Mohammed Nawaz, Fahim Ashraf, Hasan Ali, Aamer Yamin,
Mohammed Amir, Usman Khan, Rumman Raees, Sohail Khan etc.
When will the tournament Commence?
The tournament will take place from 12th to 15th
September 2017 in Gaddafi Stadium of Lahore, Pakistan. The 1st match and second
matches take place on 12th and 13th September respectively and the final match
will take place on the 15th allowing the teams to rest a bit.
